I’ve attended too-many-to-count online courses and online events over the past year and I often found myself becoming easily distracted. One of the things I did to prevent this from happening was working on small, repetitive tasks with my hands while I was listening. One of the very practical projects I took on was making small weights for use in the conservation lab. I can’t express enough how much this project helped me concentrate and absorb more of the online content.
Using a few online tutorials that I found, I took inspiration from these Positively Splendid DIY Pattern Weights as well as The Daily Sew’s DIY Pattern Weights. I repurposed a great vintage embroidered linen and some cotton tape to make a variety of different shapes and sizes. They’ve been great to work with so far and the cross-stitch patterns always bring a smile to my face. Working with pretty, handmade tools like these is just so satisfying.
